The Class of 1965’s 65th Birthday
Celebration
Your 65th Birthday Party Planning Committee* has been busy putting together
a terrific weekend for classmates, class widows, and guests to come together and celebrate our imminent retirement years,
to reflect on the many roads traveled and less traveled, and to enjoy the majesty and beauty of our Nation’s Capital
in the fullness of spring.
Our online registration can be found at
http://webhost5.nts.jhu.edu/cofhe/65bday/.
If you plan to attend, please logon and provide your contact
information as well as get instructions on how to send along the Registration Fee of $150 per person. This charge is an inclusive one that will include our Friday cocktail welcoming reception, an exclusive
Saturday night gala dinner (plus entertainment and open bar) in a private Capitol Hill location with spectacular views of
our Nation’s Capitol, optional tours, and other incidental expenses.
We have secured preferred rates for a block of rooms at two adjacent hotels in the historic
and convenient Dupont Circle area of downtown Washington,
the first of which will be our “home base” and will be the site of a welcoming cocktail party on Friday evening. Both hotels are an adjacent to shops, bookstores, Starbuck’s, Metro subway,
embassies, and several museums. If you plan on staying at one of these hotels,
you should call as indicated below and mention that you are with the Dartmouth Reunion group to receive the preferred rate. (Note preferred rate cutoff dates.)

The weekend events, some of which are still in the planning stages, will include:
· a walking tour of historic Georgetown and Dupont Circle neighborhoods by renowned tour guide Mary
Kay Ricks (www.tourdc.com/gtspring10.html) on Saturday morning, preceded by coffee and bagels at the Bracken’s 1895 townhouse located conveniently
between the two hotels and Georgetown;
· a tour of the National Cathedral by the avuncular and beloved
St. Albans teacher, the Rev. Will Billow. This
“insiders” tour will include things you will never see or experience in the normal docent tour: e.g., the
face of Hitler carved into one of the choir chairs (and the amazing story that goes with it), the Bishop’s Balcony,
the “unfinished gargoyle,” and maybe even a visit to the bell tower carillon if it’s not in use.
· a gala
gourmet dinner Saturday night with one of Washington’s most spectacular views of our nation’s Capitol; and live
entertainment featuring our own Class magician and mystifying master of deception, Rich Bloch, who will be taking a break
from his legal duties and cruise ship gigs just to be with us;
· the option of attending the Sunday afternoon Washington Nationals-Florida
Marlins game in our spanking new Nationals Park right near the U.S. Capitol (a block of tickets will be purchased for those
who sign up to attend, probably in the $25 category with payment due when you arrive in DC).);
· touring
on your own several museums that are just a stone’s throw from your hotel: the intimate Phillips Collection is less
than a block away (www.phillipscollection.org); the Textile Museum is only a short walk (www.textilemuseum.org); or venture farther a field to literally hundreds of museums,
exhibits, and monuments that make Washington such a great
tourist destination;
The weather in Washington
in mid-May should be perfect for our many outings and the entrance to our wonderful air-conditioned subway system, the Metro,
is only a block from the Hilton (two from the Marriott).
In order to assist your Planning Committee with
logistical details, we urge you to click on the web address above, complete the online signup and send along your registration
fee as soon as possible. In addition, please visit and register at Our Evite Party Site where you can indicate your attendance plans, see who else has signed up to attend, as well as send the Evite

Evite also contains a link back to our Class website and additional details.)
