James Otis Saloma

James Otis Saloma died on March 2, 2006 of a heart attack, which occurred when he encountered a burglar at his home in Takoma Park, Maryland.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years Jennifer French Saloma of Takoma Park and three children,  Sylvi Saloma of Takoma Park and Siiri Saloma and Taisto Saloma, both of Washington.

Jim was born in Hingham, MA of Finnish and Lithuanian immigrant parents and raised in Windham, NH. He came to Dartmouth from Pinkerton Academy and St. Paul’s School.  He majored in history and graduated in 1965. In 1972 Jim earned his MBA at Cornell.

He served in the Navy during Vietnam and then returned to the Washington D.C. area where he worked at Price Waterhouse, Marriott, the Credit Card Service Bureau and Cable TV Montgomery. Ten years ago he started work as an independent financial consultant.

In his leisure time he enjoyed restoring his family’s 19th century home in Takoma Park.
